Last November, I had the opportunity to fly to California for Anna and Joe’s California beach engagement session, and it was one of those evenings that reminded me why I love documenting couples in places that mean something to them. We went to Seascape Beach Resort as the sun began to set, with soft coastal light, quiet stretches of sand, and the ocean creating the perfect backdrop for an evening that felt effortless from beginning to end.

Anna’s first look was timeless with a satin white dress featuring the beautiful scarf neckline detail that has become such a favorite, paired with an elegant updo. Later, she changed into a more relaxed outfit, and by the end of the session she let her hair down, leaving us with the dreamiest beach waves as the last light disappeared over the horizon.

One of my favorite parts of their story is Anna’s engagement ring. Joe proposed with her late grandmother’s diamond, thoughtfully reset into a custom band created just for them. Before her grandmother passed away, she entrusted the ring to Anna’s grandfather with the hope that it would someday be given to the person who asked for Anna’s hand in marriage. Now she gets to carry that piece of her family with her every day, making the ring even more meaningful.

This month, I’ll have the honor of photographing their wedding, and I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate alongside them. Anna and Joe are also some of my closest friends, which has made the whole experience extra special for me.
